Animal rescue centers in the UK are facing a "crisis point" due to a significant rise in abandoned pets, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the current cost of living crisis. Many centres, like the Bristol Animal Rescue Center (ARC) and Bath Cats and Dogs Home (BCDH), report increases in animal intake and complex medical cases, leading to severe resource strain. ARC has seen a 24% rise in animals since last year, while BCDH averages one stray animal per day, necessitating extensive medical care. Charity leaders urge prospective pet owners to research responsibly and consider early intervention for health issues to prevent abandonment. Both centers are also implementing support programs to help pet owners main
tain their pets, alongside ongoing fundraising efforts to meet rising operational costs.
